About this Website
This website was put together to share with all the collectors and
those interested in history after finding information about the Zenith Egg Grading Scale manufactured in Earlville, New York. It is very unusual to find paperwork for an item so old. And it is even more unusual to find the printing typeset for the papers. In all the collectors' websites and the sales on the auction websites I have not seen any papers included with the scales. There may be more out there but I have not seen or read of it.
The information was found in the former print shop of Robert
Chase of Earlville, NY. A cigar box with set type and some papers was found. It had the set type for the instructions for use as found on the Tag page. There was a 2 sided printed tag, two sample prints on cards, and a third sample print on a paper. There were two sets of type, one slightly shorter by height than the other. The shorter height one was used for the tag.
After more pickup, sorting, and cleaning, some other things were
found related to the Zenith Egg Grading Scale. Some unused envelopes (with return address and photo) and receipt letterhead, as seen on the stationary page, were found, along with the brochure, most likely a sales brochure that was sent in the mail. Since there were several unused envelopes and receipt letterheads, it is likely they were printed in the same shop. But further searching did not yield set type or a photo block for the stationary. The photo block may have been returned to the manufacturer. There was no additional evidence found to suggest the brochure was printed there also. |
